Sushi Day!

Last Thursday the AgCulture youth got to make sushi with fresh food from local farms. They chopped radishes, carrots, napa cabbage, broccoli, and kohlrabi. They cooked up some rice and local eggs. Farmworkers and there future as elders in the community (respect for our elders?)

Today, the AARP has helped direct attention to yet another tile in the mosaic, one usually hidden deep in the shadows: the plight of the "retired" farmworker, workers who have given their youth and their health to the fields, but with age and broken bodies can no longer work at the pace necessary to be hired for the harvest. Back In Riverside

Its good to be back in Riverside after a peaceful and restful summer taking the Agroecology Practicum at UCSC and attending the West Coast Real Food Challenge Leadership Training in Atascadero, CA. I'm headed out to the UCR student garden to see how its faired the summer heat!
